What's available?

How do I reserve it?

- The technology calendar has been shared with you on Outlook.
- To make a reservation you have two options:
  1. Access the Outlook calendar and type your name beside the cart/day you would like.
  2. Email Garrett (kathryn.garrett@mnps.org) the cart and date that you would like to reserve. Reservations will be added in the order they are received.
IMPORTANT!
- Sometimes reservations are bumped to accommodate testing. When this happens I will do my best to communicate this to you via
email and give you another cart if there is one available. This will especially affect teams like 5th grade who reserve carts for specific
  days all year long.
- If you no longer need the cart please remove your reservation so other teachers know it is available. Please do not erase the name of     the cart or other events in the series.

- Do not remove a cart from the technology room without reserving it first.  Check to make sure the cart is not already reserved for Lion Time. If you need help getting a cart call the library. If we aren't available check with other adults with flexible schedules in the building.

Accessing Carts

  • All technology carts are located in the storage room near Rm. 200.
    • The 5th grade team will keep Cart I and 5th grade iPads in the 5th grade tech room in Lower Litton. Cart G (STEM) will also be kept there. Ms. Jennings has a key or you can find an admin with a master key.
  • There is a key in the library available to teachers for unlocking the door.
  • You will receive an email that has the combination lock for the iPad carts. Please DO NOT share this information with students.

Guidelines

DO:
  • Plug in all technology between classes and in the evenings (ALL CORDS - some ThinkPad carts have two cords).
  • Return them every night - This is huge. You are leaving $25,000 sitting in your room overnight, which is an opportunity for theft. It is an inconvenience to the teacher who has it reserved the following day and to Garrett who has to search the school to find the cart. Additionally, if you have an emergency absence, you just left the cart with a sub in your room.
  • Push the door closed to the closet every time you access it. Yes it stinks to get the key, but again, they’re expensive.
  • Count them when you open the cart, between every class, at the end of the day. Call Ms. Garrett (x1941) immediately if any technology is missing. Note: iPads have fallen into the side of the cart before so make sure you check there before you panic.
  • Assign students a technology number and give them that number every single time. A great way would be to print a roster, write numbers next to it, and tape it to your desk (You can use this template). This way if there is an issue we know which student used the technology. Note: iPads no longer have numbers.
  • Put them back in the cart in # order.
  • Reviewing expectations with students prior to use (and regularly throughout the year) is helpful to reinforce proper use.
  • Limit movement of technology. Keep it in your room and only split when absolutely necessary.
  • Send any iPad app requests to Ms. Garrett ASAP. Carts will be updated twice a year (an email will be sent out one week prior to updates to give you a chance to submit requests).
DON’T:
  • Send students to pick up or return carts.
  • Let students push the carts, even if you are with them.
  • Include technology is sub plans. For any reason.
  • Have students plug in iPads or ThinkPads. It causes damage, broken cords, etc.
  • Leave them in the hallway for any reason. Park them in another teacher’s room if necessary.
  • Leave the room unlocked when technology is in there.
  • Let students change the background (this is how we see the iPad number) or invert the colors.
  • Have students use the copy machine.
